Thanks to prompt despatch by the folks at Christie Bears, eyes nose and stuffing for bear came and I was able to complete him whilst still snowed in. He's adapted from a pattern by Alan Dart that appeared in Simply Knitting magazine issue 40 and was a very simple knit. I used Paton's Whisper as I'd been given it as a gift, but the pattern is for Sirdar Funky Fur. He's really quite large - about 20", knitted in this yarn (but I think the original is smaller) and well stuffed will stand up unsupported.
In a good light he's quite sparkly. I don't usually knit much with fancy yarn, prefering natural fibres, but it was really quite fun and he suits the weather rather, I think. Even M thinks he's rather splendid.
It's been raining today and snow is starting to thaw but I don't think I'll try to get out until it's less slippery under the slush - at least the car starts. The end is in sight though, thank goodness.

He is rather splendid, what a handsome chap, does he have a name yet?
I've enjoyed reading your posts, some are quite poingnant. I too, like your other commenter, found the description of 'a recipe for breakfast' both humourous and touching.
I'm sure since M's stay you've found being able to blog your thoughts as being quite theraputic.
Your sense of humour shines through.

Thank you CJ, he's just called Bear at present but no doubt a name will emerge in time - he's currently resident on the sofa. Daughter thinks he looks very earnest so perhaps we'll go with that!
We do try and keep a sense of humour with M though she has never been an easy person and hasn't mellowed with age. Everyone I speak to who has been in a similar situation says the same thing - it's the indefinite-ness of that makes it hard. Looking after someone of 91, who, although frail and having difficulty with movement, has no other major disease or condition (and comes from a family who regularly have lived to be over 100 and even to 106) stretches before us. We wouldn't be human if we didn't sometime wonder, being already middle-aged, whether it'll still be possible for us to pick our lives back up after she's gone or will we have lost too much time.
