I desired to get beyond the sea
This is the first stitched card I've received and it really is super. Thank you, Jo.
I wish I knew why our post is so bad at the moment. My last card took several days to get to its recipient so I posted this one, on the theme of Angels, a day early to Penny from the local Post Office, and it did arrive on time. I'd had quite a struggle to get it to stick together, so I was relieved it got there intact.
The Angel is from a Fra Angelico Annunciation - though not the most famous one, and thebackground is a photo of sunset printed on paper and a transparency. I used this poem by Emily Dickinson on the reverse:
God permit industrious angels
Afternoons to play.
I met one, -- forgot my school-mates,
All, for him, straightaway.
God calls home the angels promptly
At the setting sun;
I missed mine. How dreary marbles,
After playing the Crown!
Afternoons to play.
I met one, -- forgot my school-mates,
All, for him, straightaway.
God calls home the angels promptly
At the setting sun;
I missed mine. How dreary marbles,
After playing the Crown!
Like much of her poetry, it's quirky and difficult to decide if you've transcribed it right, but this does seem to be a correct version.

So it both went on a journey round and about. The card to me from cathy ended up at a neighbours house!
Both of these postcards are super. How lovely that Jo stitched her 'Water' postcard, I love the movement in it and the sentiment is sweet. I loved the colours of your Angel, and the beaded belt is a lovely touch. I didn't know the poem and I enjoyed reading it.
I'm so glad you received your post card. It is very beautiful. The incorporation of words into an embroidery is one of my favourite styles.
And your use of a contemporary photograph with an image from so long ago is inspired
These postcard swaps are really lovely . Just catching up with some posts and enjoying your animal collection. I'll have to watch out for these!
