Three or ninety-three

 93

Today is M's 93rd birthday.  So far she's - opened all her cards yesterday and thrown most of them away, tried the chocolates Grandson 1 sent and decided she won't eat them and they're now waiting to be given away, received two enormous bouquets of beautiful flowers which she says she can't see and has had them repositioned every half-hour because there isn't enough room in this silly room (- the room that's the same size as our sittingroom with an ensuite the size of our bathroom in which she insists on staying all day every day despite constant request to come down stairs to sit in the conservatory or eat in the kitchen),  said she won't eat the steak bought specially at the best local butchers because she said it was what she fancied.  Phoned most of her friends and told them that we aren't doing anything for her birthday.  (We offered to take her out for lunch or tea but that's been totally vetoed.)
Resolution did waiver when we gave her some truffles from a specialist shop (more fitting to her status than the mass produced ones sent by post, apparently).  If she won't eat the birthday cake, still to come, made by daughter, she may well find herself wearing it - daughter being of a less forgiving nature and less concerned with a quiet life!
She's told everyone that this will be her last birthday - as she's been saying that for at least 15 years and comes from a family where many have lived to be well over a hundred, we aren't making any plans!  If the person who found previous posts about M inappropriate would like to object to this one, they're very welcome...

Jane,
I'm catching up on my favourite blogs so must have missed a previous post and will go back to check. I feel for every syllable you have written and admire your patience and fortitude. 93 is a fantastic age and still have all your faculties. Lucky lady to have such a loving and caring family.

Well done for retaining a sense of humour. If she's wearing the birthday cake don't forget to light the candles!

Oh crikey - hope the birthday cake is accepted graciously!

How you manage to retain that sense of humour beats me - I am afraid I might have done what your daughter might do if she didn't eat the cake long before now!

Cake was received and a piece eaten and the steak was eventually found acceptable - helped by H's decision to serve a glass of champagne! We're wondering now if we should just do that every day... All this week she's been happily planning her funeral and writing instructions as to whom we should notify - we pointed out that we might not be here to see it :-)

Blimey! What a fuss, why are people so ungrateful? Keep smiling, you really are doing a great job and roll on the hospital appointment. And do NOT remove this post, lol!

Thanks for calling in at my blog! From what I see from your blog, you are a vary hard-working saint who simply doesn't have the time to polish her halo, and doesn't know where it is anyway!

Will definitely be a regular reader from now on.
